Bronx man pleads guilty to stabbing death of notorious prisoner.
A convicted killer who achieved notoriety after shooting six Bronx cops in 1986 and led police on a 17-day manhunt was murdered in jail last night, state prison officials said.
Larry Davis, who was serving 25-years-to-life on an unrelated murder, was stabbed by another inmate at about 7 p.m.
Wednesday in the yard at Shawangunk prison in Ulster County.
Davis, 41, was stabbed repeatedly with a 12-by-1 1/2-inch homemade metal shank in the arms, head, back, leg and chest at the prison, about 80 miles north of the city, officials said.
Inmate Luis Rosado, 42, was arraigned on murder charges this morning, prison officials said.
They did not immediately know the motive for the murder.
Davis’ claim to infamy came after cops went to a Bronx apartment on Nov. 19, 1986 to question him in the murders of four drug dealers. Davis shot and wounded a half-dozen cops and then escaped unhurt through a window, setting off a 17-day manhunt that involved hundreds of officers.
